For a close-up look at a working farm, check out South Mountain Creamery, in Middletown.
They bottle their (hormone-free) milk in glass bottles and sell home-made ice cream, cheese, and more in a building at the edge of the farm.
While you’re there, you can look in on their free-range chickens, watch the cows get milked (every afternoon at 1:30), and help feed the baby calves (every afternoon at 4).
My family has spent several afternoons there; it’s a nice change of pace, and I like that my kids know that food begins its life outside of the grocery store.
